I found some cool pictures from a trip my family and I took several months back to Vancouver, BC and Seattle, WA. There are a few I really like that I think I might get framed and showcase to the world! Or at least to the people who enter my condo and gaze at the walls...

Today I updated my portfolio with a project I finished in my Web Applications class last semester, I intend on adding more soon from the follow-up course this semester. I also added some of the other projects I have been working on recently like a Java program I had been playing around with for a week or two and a couple of technical presentations I had given last month, there are still many more projects in these categories to add, but I need to check with my professors before I post them online.

I also bought my cap and gown today for graduation; quite expensive, but I will fully admit it was satisfying paying for it. Only a month left until this semester is over!

Today was my first phone interview with Google's College Recruiter for a possible Software Engineering position at their Mountain View office. It was short, but went well. I was asked about my schoolwork, my future prospects, and the like, and I think my goals were well-received that I might fit very well at a place like Google. I have my next interview (this being the technical one) scheduled for Monday, and I have done nothing but practice my algorithms and data structures since, so I hope I can give them the answers they are looking for.

I am also looking forward to graduation in T-minus 2.5 months! The commencement ceremony will be held on May 23, 2010 in Viejas Arena on SDSU's campus, I only hope I can make it with my severe case of senior-itis kicking in full-swing. I have two more 15-minute presentations, three more projects, and two more exams, and you can bet that I will be keeping track all the way until the final task is complete!

Today was the start of Fly Light Design, a web development and design company, that my friend Andrew Hernandez and I have created to take advantage of our individual talents and combine them. Mine and Andrew's roles are "Lead Web Designer" and "Lead Graphic Designer", respectively, and for good reason; I handle the web programming, client-side JavaScript, and PHP database-handling routines, and he is in charge of the graphical portion, color schemes, SEO, and similar.

Our first client's website has been finished and was very well received, and we have many more possibilities in the works! If you would like to see the finished product, it is available on my portfolio labeled Picture Perfect Windows & Doors.

I have been so busy lately, I have hardly been able to post a new blog in 6 months! Well, many new updates including the start of a business that my high school friend Andrew and I have built to help people get started with designing their websites. The company name we have concocted is FlyLight Web Design (in case you're wondering, the name means very little, it's just something that seems to flow off the tongue easily).

We have had only one client so far, but as I understand, there is a high demand for web design at the moment, and so far we are not short of work by any means! I will be sure to post updates as they develop, along with the finished products that we generate for our customers.

Aside from all this, I started school again today after spending the whole summer taking upper division classes to make my next two semesters a breeze. I am currently enrolled in three courses (one of them being Web Application Development, very excited!) this semester, so then I have two more courses to take in the Spring, including my senior seminar Computer Science speaking class, and then I can get my degree! I'm starting to make excited plans for what will happen after graduation, but I shouldn't count my chickens just yet (is that the expression?)

A trip around Europe maybe? Well then I need money. ;-)

More on this story as it develops.

Today was the official launch of the website for the Alcohol Medical Scholars Program (AMSP) at UCSD that I have been working on for the past 3 to 4 months, a few hours each week. The launch of this site helps to illustrate the evolution of the UCSD program, as the previous release of the site contained only unformatted black text on a white background.

It was showcased at the most recent AMSP meeting and has gotten very positive response and makes abundantly clear the professional boost that a program or company can attain by having a nice, functional, well-formatted website.
